Harish Johari’s Numerology: edition, Indian symbolism and reading boundaries

A revised guide to the 1990 Destiny Books edition, three personal numbers and the Vedic Square, distinguishing symbolic claims from evidence.

Revised 2026-10-24: checked the official edition details and contents, and removed unsupported formula details and implied health benefits.

Harish Johari's *Numerology* has the subtitle *With Tantra, Ayurveda, and Astrology*. Its use of English does not make its Indian cultural framework a single universal “Western nameology” system.

The Inner Traditions listing identifies Destiny Books, paperback, 208 pages, ISBN 9780892812585, and an on-sale date of 1 November 1990. These details identify that edition, not every translation or reprint. The publisher's claims of being “first” are not treated here as an independently established history.

The synopsis distinguishes Psychic Number for self-image, Destiny Number for karma and others' perceptions, and Name Number for social and professional life. These are the author's symbolic interpretations, not validated psychological measurements. Check his actual formula rather than transferring a similarly named number from another book.

The published contents include the Vedic Square and chapters pairing 1–9 with the Sun, Moon, Jupiter, Rahu, Mercury, Venus, Ketu, Saturn and Mars, followed by material on interactions and compound numbers. The astrological grouping includes Rahu and Ketu, associated with lunar nodes; it is not a list of nine physical planets in modern astronomy. A numerical square's mathematical pattern does not itself demonstrate a claim about destiny.

Advice about colours, stones, practices or favourable periods should be attributed to the author, not restated as a guarantee of health or prosperity. This book is not clinical evidence or a basis for treatment instructions. Nor should one author's framework stand for every Indian tradition.
