Revised 2026-10-24: separated modern conventions from ancient attributions and added reproducible examples, replacing deterministic claims and website-development boilerplate.

Numerology assigns symbolic meanings to numbers derived from names, birth dates or other inputs. Reproducing a calculation and demonstrating that it predicts personality or events are different tasks.

Modern “Pythagorean” name tables often cycle A–Z through 1–9. The label does not establish that Pythagoras devised this modern 26-letter algorithm. The Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy's historical account distinguishes early evidence from later attributions. Likewise, Cheiro's ancient-origin claims and Johari's Indian framework do not establish one universal, historically continuous method.

A calculation you can inspect

ConventionValues for JOHNTotal and reduction
A–Z cyclically assigned 1–9J=1, O=6, H=8, N=520 → 2
Cheiro-style 1–8 tableJ=1, O=7, H=5, N=518 → 9

The first uses ((alphabet position - 1) % 9) + 1; the second uses Cheiro's assignments. Different results demonstrate different tables, not a change in someone's actual destiny.

Adding all digits of 1990-01-01 gives 21, then 3. This illustrates one digit-sum convention, not a formula shared by every school. Other procedures reduce components separately or preserve 11, 22 or other compound numbers. State where reduction happens and what is retained.

Birth names, everyday names, stage names and former names are different inputs. Mandarin romanization, Cantonese spellings, accents, spaces, hyphens and the classification of Y also require explicit choices. Do not change the convention after seeing the result. Terms such as Life Path, Destiny, Expression and Psychic may refer to different inputs across authors.

For comparison, Javane and Bunker's book combines numerology with Tarot and astrology; Johari uses an Indian symbolic framework; Cheiro emphasizes letter values and compound totals. They should not be collapsed into a single formula.

A symbolic description may provide reflection prompts. Arithmetic consistency, library holdings and publisher descriptions do not by themselves independently validate predictive claims. LamjinLab's numerology tool can help inspect conventions; it does not guarantee outcomes from a name change.
